Poor Dolly

It is an interesting time in Tunisia – it’s Eid week.

The past few weeks there has been a steadily increasing number of sheep in truck-beds zooming around town. I’ve been approached on the street by a man trying to sell me his sheep and have born witness to many such transactions. As my student put it yesterday when asked to make a sentence using the opposite adjectives happy and sad, “I am happy, but the sheep are sad.” This is because tomorrow Muslim families will be slaughtering a sheep in sacrifice to God.

I’m off to Bizerte for a couple of days to spend the holiday with Halima and her family. Happy Eid!
