Saturday Night Football

Last night I went to a football match (my first ever professional football match!) with two former students, Ahmed and Mohammed. Our team, Club Sportif Sfaxien was playing an Egyptian team in the CAF Cup. From the moment we arrived, the stadium was electrified with cheering, chanting, and drumming and about halfway through the second half red flares started lighting up in the stands! It felt so exciting to be in the middle of all the madness. We won with a final score of 3-1, go CSS!

After the match we went for casse-croûtes, the Tunisian version of a fast-food sandwich. It contains harissa, cucumber, tomato, egg, tuna and french fries all stuffed into a warm baguette. They are absolutely heavenly.

I think I’ve stumbled upon a go-to travel recipe here.. local sport + local fast-food. In Taipei it was squid-on-a-stick and baseball and in Sfax, Tunisia it’s casse-croûtes and football!

Sounds like a great time. You may have to make us those sandwiches when you get back!
